A MAGical place to shop
When looking for an original gift, whether for a birthday or just when attending a dinner party, the Mooresville Artist Guild hopes Lake Norman residents will think of them.
The guild has opened the MAGical Gallery inside its Depot Gallery in downtown Mooresville.
“We’re trying to get people used to the idea of coming in here and thinking of the artists guild as a place to buy a gift,” guild member Sandie Bell said.
The MAGical Gallery now takes up a little space in one of the front corners of the Depot gallery. A case holds some wood-carved items and handmade jewelry. A variety of notecards, prints and originals sit in baskets and framed works hang on nearby walls. Bell’s own work is displayed as well — a variety of small watercolors.
The guild was already selling a lot of notecards and decided to expand on that success by opening the gallery shop.
Most of the merchandise in the MAGical Gallery is under $100.
The merchandise in the gallery is expanding quickly as more guild artists bring their work in. They hope to have more jewelry and some wood-turned pieces soon.
Bell also expects seasonal things, like scarves, to be available when the weather turns cold again.
“It’s always going to be original, handmade things,” Bell said.
Which is great for the gift-giver looking for something different.
“It’s really exciting for the guild,” artist Cathy Sigmon said of the MAGical Gallery. “The guild has lots of things going on now and is trying to keep art accessible.”
