Sports Page offers ‘game day’ fare
Fans will feel right at home at Sports Page Food and Spirits in Mooresville. But the new eatery boasts more than just big-screen TVs. It’s also big on taste.
Located in the new Harris Teeter shopping center off River Highway, it is a moderately priced restaurant, great for a night out with friends or sharing a meal with the family.
The interior of the restaurant is spacious and offers a choice of tables or booths. The décor includes a full bar grouped in with the smoking section and large TVs all around to enjoy your favorite sport.
On the menu is typical “game day” fare — hamburgers and wings with a variety of sauces — as well as appetizers like mozzarella sticks and nachos. But the menu does mix it up with healthier options like grilled chicken, seared tuna salad and side choices like steamed broccoli and green beans for those trying to watch their caloric intake.
I was not watching my girlish figure when I stopped by Sports Page and ordered the Monte Cristo sandwich, which consists of bread fried up like French toast and then grilled with turkey, ham and Swiss cheese inside. It’s topped with powdered sugar and served with raspberry jam and your choice of a side.
The sandwich sounds strange, but it is, in fact, delicious. I’ve had it before at other restaurants, but the raspberry jam at Sports Page was especially flavorful and really made the sandwich. I chose fries as my side and they were crispy and fresh.
Prices on the menu range from about $7 to $9, and the children’s menu is about $5 per item. The kids’ menu consists of popular items like hot dogs, chicken tenders and grilled cheese.
The service was quick and accommodating. The waitress I had was polite and very understanding, even when the patrons at the table next to me had many food allergies and had to special order a lot of items.
Of course, I had to order dessert. The hot fudge cake with ice cream was calling my name, and it was well worth the fat grams. It was moist and the fudge was rich and thick. Next time, I look forward to sampling their famous fried cheesecake.
