What’s in Aiken’s CD player?

Let’s play a little game of word association to find out who is featured in this week’s In My CD Player column.

Here are the clues: Singer. Raleigh. Muppet-like. American Idol. Million-seller. Um, demure. Claymation. Spamalot. Kathy Griffin. Yip dog.

If you guessed North Carolina’s own Clay Aiken, well, you’re not only right, you are probably a Claymate (Aiken fan). Aiken is fresh from a stint on Broadway as Sir Robin in Monty Python’s Spamalot - man, those Pythons have an odd sense of humor. And on Tuesday, he released a brand-new album, On My Way Here, thus providing more fodder for comedian Griffin, who is obsessed with Aiken.

As the big-voiced Aiken readies to promote his new disc, he took time to share five CDs that really send him into a frenzy.

Kimberly Locke, Fall: “I love her song ‘Fall.’ We did American Idol together, and I think she is just awesome all around.” .

Michael Buble, Call Me Irresponsible: “My favorite song on this album is ‘Everything.’ He’s a wonderful singer, just a classic.”

Miranda Lambert, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend: “I like a lot of country music, and I think ‘Desperation’ from this album is so emotional and beautiful. Her voice penetrates and delivers the message.”

Alison Krauss, New Favorite: “The song ‘Stay’ is just outstanding. I believe this is what angels sound like.”

Steven Curtis Chapman, This Moment: “I’ve been a fan of his as long as I can remember. It’s great that he’s getting airplay on mainstream radio with his song ‘Cinderella.’”
