Brown files for District 22 judge

Former assistant district attorney Deborah Brown has entered the race for a new District Court judge’s seat.

Brown, who is now in private practice, filed Friday to seek the seat created by separating Iredell and Alexander counties into its own judicial district.

Brown will face attorney Peter Smith in the election to determine who will get the new seat.

Brown is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and received her law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

She was in private practice with a firm in Raleigh for two years, and then joined the district attorney’s office in Charlotte for five years.

She prosecuted cases in Iredell County for five years before going into private practice in 1996.Brown handles criminal defense, domestic cases, personal injury and juvenile matters.

Brown is a founding member of the board of trustees for Triplett United Methodist Church Day Care, and is a member of the board at Appropriate Placement Options, Inc., and served as president from 1998-2005.

She is a member of Altrusa of Statesville, and served as its president from 2004 to 2006.
