What are the biggest issues facing your constituency?
Growth management, Water and Sewer Infrastructure, Economic Development, Parks and Recreation, Transportation
Of those issues, which do you feel is the most important?
It is hard to single just one of these out. They all pertain to quality of life issues and when making decisions for the present and future, we need to keep them all in perspective. I would say that growth management is very critical, because the ramifications of this growth directly influences what the Town Board must do to achieve and set our tax rates. As these decisions are made, the Town Board must monitor it’s long term affects for the good of the community and keep in mind the responsibility it presents to businesses, developers, and our population.
What, if any, prior experience do you have that will help you if elected?
Serving the last four years as Town Commissioner of Ward 1. Town representative on the Centralina Council of Government and serve on it’s executive committee. Town representative on the Lake Norman Rural Planning Commission. Member of the Iredell Transportion Board. Serve on the Recreation Advisory committee. Represent the town on the First Tee Advisory Board. Town representative on the Mooresville Visitors and Convention Bureau. Past director on the Mooresville Downtown Commission board.
Community interest wide I am the current President of the Mooresville Athletic Boosters, President of the American Legion Baseball Advisory committee. I have been involved in the past coaching in our recreation system for 12+ years and been involved in several civic clubs including past president of the Mooresville Jaycees and Mooresville Optimists. I have owned and operated a general contracting business in Mooresville for 10+ years. I am a proud member of the MS-I Chamber of Commerce.
What is one particular thing you think the board of commissioners is doing right? Doing wrong?
This current board communicates well amongst ourselves and has healthy debates and discussions on all the issues before us. These of course include our strategic plan that has been adopted in the last two years. This plan has been effectively providing insight from the various department heads and town staff towards the best and most efficient methods of the operation and maintenance of all of the departments and ultimately providing our citizen’s with the best quality community to live and work in.
I wouldn’t consider it doing wrong, but believe that the board must continue to do a better job of public relations and getting the word out to our community. Great strides have been taken with the “Town Voice” newsletter and the revamped website and the information it provides to our community.
