Can large, urban companies and the rural Iredell coexist? Does a vibrant, thriving, growing economy threaten the small town feel of the county? Can wildlife and sub-divisions subsist peacefully together?
There have been momentous amounts of unnecessary growth put upon Iredell County. This growth is now endangering the bucolic feeling that defines Iredell. However, the development of Iredell is crucial for a wide-spread tax base. The county now has to decide between its growth in economy and its quaint hillsides.
If Iredell does choose to expand its economy, then that decision would bring many occupations to Iredell, just like the Lowe’s headquarters brought so many jobs. However, this decision caused the loss of numerous acres of farmland. Nevertheless, Iredell’s economy could have suffered if Lowe’s choose not to place its headquarters where it is currently located.
In fifty years, I envision an Iredell County that has used wise growth policies to control it taxes and to preserve its rural farmlands. Whether or not this prediction will occur, lies in the hands of the citizens of Iredell County
