IREDELL IN TRANSITION

A look at our growing county

RUNNER-UP: ‘I want to be a part of shaping the future of our community’

Rishi Kothadia, eighth grade

My parents moved directly to Statesville, NC, when they immigrated to the U.S. I was born and raised in this wonderful town. I am ever so grateful that my parents chose to settle in such a beautiful environment. I love all the natural scenery including the mountain ranges and outer banks.

Living in the closely-knit community of the Lake Norman area has made my childhood very special. We take annual family trips to the Blue Ridge Parkway to sightsee and watch the colors of the leaves change in autumn. During the summer we have fun boating and jet skiing adventures on Lake Norman. I have so many great memories from family picnics at Lake Norman State Park. All of these experiences have made my life very special and I will always cherish these memories.

After growing up in Statesville, I can never imagine myself growing up in a big city such as New York. The schools are great here and the teachers are actually care for each child. I have known some of my friends since preschool and I am grateful to have grown up with such a great group of people. The people of our community are so nice and friendly.

As a young leader, I want to be a part of shaping the future of our community. I will always advocate the morals and values that I have learned from parents, community leaders, and teachers. I will pass these ideas on to younger generations and even to my own children one day.
