IREDELL IN TRANSITION

A look at our growing county

‘Iredell needs nature’

Stacy Mroz, 8th grade, Woodlawn School

What does one imagine when picturing Iredell County? For me, I visualize my school, Woodlawn School, and the nature encircling it. I also picture kayaking on the lake and playing outside, in the beautiful environment surrounding me. I envision the beauty of the nature, the colors of the leaves, and the ripples of the water.  All of these elements of the outdoors define Iredell County. Simply put, I identify Iredell County as Mother Nature. Small town life, encompassed by nature, with simplicity everywhere; hopefully Iredell can always remain in this current state. Containing all the nature Iredell has now, I would love for this county to look exactly the same in 50 years, or even in 10 years. But as we can all see, construction and expansion is occurring everywhere. Hopefully Iredell will keep the same small town feel, even with the rapid change. More people are moving to Charlotte and its surrounding areas, causing the major expansion in Iredell; and in order for them to have a place to live, we need to tear down more nature. Nature is the heart and soul of Iredell County, and we need to keep it this way. I hope Iredell can stay as rural as it is today for as long as possible, because Iredell County needs nature.
