IREDELL IN TRANSITION

A look at our growing county

‘It will remain Iredell County’

Dana Neidinger, 8th grade, Woodlawn School

Since I currently reside in North Mecklenburg County, I don’t visit Iredell much save occasional weekend shopping in Mooresville and the AMC movie theater near Wal-Mart.  The only reason Iredell County is included in my day-to-day activities is that I go to school there.

The heavily wooded area around my school includes an appealing Cross Country course.  Plans put in place for development extend to the further reaches of the school property, and I accept that.  It will later include a gym and a cafeteria, but I would like the Cross Country trail to stay.  It has undergone some changes now already and will not remain the same later. I hope that Woodlawn will keep the rural feel with some woods left and the gardens, but I expect it to include more buildings.  I consider the fun people that are there the best part of my school, which can hopefully never be changed.

The area outside of my school that I interact with on a regular consists of shopping centers, especially the large one in Mooresville. Now, it consists of mainly all buildings and pavement with little or no grass or features.  I want it to look nicer in the future, but somehow, I think it might even be more developed and paved over. I myself prefer to look at grass and trees other than pavement and buildings.
Iredell, the “Crossroads for the Future”, will undergo many changes, but it will remain Iredell County.
