Town board members Thursday night met the town’s newest police officer, held two public hearings and chose the town’s 2008 Citizen of the Year.

Troutman Police Chief Matthew Selves introduced Rodney James as the town’s newest police officer. James, who was born and raised in Iredell County, previously worked for the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office for six years. He is also certified as a school safety resource officer, in DWI standard field training and is certified as an officer field trainer.

“As a small town that is still growing we’re very happy to have (James) on the job. He’s a person whom you won’t have to look over your shoulder and worry about his abilities to do the job,” Selves said.
