IREDELL IN TRANSITION

A look at our growing county

‘We could wipe out a lot of vegetation and animals habitats in ten years’

Maggie Guza, Grade 6, Brawley Middle School

What is life like in South Iredell county? There are many day to day activities, shops and neighbor-hoods, award winning schools and extraordinary attractions!
Most of my day to day life in Iredell county happens in school. I go to Brawley Middle School and it was ranked the number nine school in Iredell County’s list of the ten best schools. School normally lasts about seven hours so that gives me about four and a half hours of free time after school. On weekends, I hang out with friends and play with my dogs.

Most of the land in South Iredell is shops and neighborhoods. We are getting new buildings, too. Most of our shops are new and were just recently built. Mooresville now has a Town Square and they are still adding to it! A fairly new restaurant we have in our town square is a sports pub called Indigo Joes.

If we keep building shops and neighborhoods at the same rate, we could wipe out a lot of vegetation and animals habitats in ten years. In only fifty years we could have very few trees unless we do something about it. In fifty years we may also have warm winters and extremely hot summers because all the cars and businesses create air pollution that harms the atmosphere.

In fifty years, I would like the county to have more trees and vegetation. Iredell will most likely still have the same buildings but we hopefully won’t create as many.
