What are the biggest issues facing your constituency?
The biggest issue is growth in the southern part of the county. We try to stay ahead of the growth and the needs and facilities all over the county. We are always trying to maintain the quality of instruction so our product can compete in the world market.

Of those issues, which is the most important?
The most important issuse is the growth. We are constantly pushed by growth because we think we have a handle on growth but it constantly changes.

What, if any, prior experience do you have that will help you if you’re elected? I have four years experience on the Iredell-Statesville Schools Board of Education and 30 years experience in the classroom.
What is one thing you think the current board (official) is doing right? Over the four years we have established a good working relationship between board members and we have a good working relationship with administration, County Commissioners and staff within the county. All of those are good steps toward good communication. We’ve done well with everybody.

What is one thing you think the current board (official) is doing wrong?

What specifically would you do if elected in response to the county’s growth?
We have to continue to respond to the growth in a positive manner and be almost clairvoyant enough to know where the growth is going to be so we can be prepared for it. We have reports coming in all the time. A lot of growth patterns are being studied three to five years in advance.
