Running for: Iredell County Commission
Hometown: Union Grove
Occupation: retired veterinarian
Education: graduated from North Iredell 1971; attended N.C. State; graduated from University of Georgia in 1978 with a doctor of veterinary medicine degree

What are the biggest issues facing your constituency?
There are several major problems facing Iredell County. School construction has not kept up with the expanding student population. In some areas of the county roads cannot adequately handle the traffic loads, and the county is quickly losing its rural heritage.

Of those issues, which do you feel is the most important?
The biggest issue for Iredell County is the tremendous growth that the county is experiencing. It is overwhelming our infrastructure and measures must be taken to manage this growth and to plan for the future.

What, if any, prior experience do you have that will help you if elected?
I have served on director boards and committees of several organizations.

What is one particular thing you think the current board is doing right?
Even though I disagree with some of the decisions made by the current board of commissioners, I still feel they are trying to act in the best interest of the county.

What is one particular thing you think the current board is doing wrong?
We need a bipartisan board of commissioners to better represent the views of the citizens of Iredell County. For many years, county government has failed to act quickly in addresing growth and as a result we are constantly playing catch-up.

What specifically would you do if elected in response to the county’s growth?
I am committed to the betterment of the Iredell County school systems. Our youth is our future and they need a top quality education to prepare them. I will work with the state legislators and NCDOT to find a workable solution to our traffic problems. While I support growth, I feel we must preserve our rural areas because of their strong contribution to the quality of life in Iredell County.

What are your thoughts on the Parks and Recreation that is needed in Iredell County? We currently have land in North Iredell to put a park, but are having a hard time getting it developed.
