What are the biggest issues facing the courts?
I believe the biggest issues facing the court system are substance abuse, mental health issues and the constantly increasing caseload.
Of those issues, which do you feel is the most important?
All of these issues are of equal importance because they are intertwined.
What, if any, prior experience do you have that will help you if elected?
I served more than 12 years as an assistant district attorney before becoming a judge in early 2001. I have served almost eight years as a district court judge. I have spent close to 20 years in the district courts of this district.
My husband and I served as foster parents from 1994-2001 before we were blessed to be given the opportunity to adopt our four children. We have experienced the consequences of substance abuse and mental health issues through our experience as foster parents.
I was honored to be selected by our chief district court judge to be on the steering committee for our local Court Improvement Project. I currently preside over the newly-created Truancy Court in Iredell and Davie counties, after working with school officials and the Clerk of Courts Office to plan and implement this new court.
