A call to arms for North baseball

image

By Brad Norman

The pitching rotation for North’s baseball team looks to be in fairly good shape. The Raiders will lose ace Aaron Johnson, who has signed with Limestone, but return a lot of arms.

Sophomore Nick Burwell will become the No. 1 pitcher, and Brett Earnest saw time on the mound this year.

“Earnest was 3-2 this year,” North coach Matthew Poole said. “He just has to get a little stronger. He has good size, and he’s a smart kid.”

In addition to a few JV call-ups, first baseman Ryan Rutten could also see more time on the mound.

“Rutten has a strong arm,” Poole said. “He pitched two innings against East Rowan and had four strikeouts with just a fastball. We’ll work on developing some other pitches.”
