Baseball team will be looking for arms in ’09
By Brad Norman
South Iredell’s baseball team picked up five wins, and lost several one-run games, in Trey Ramsey’s first year as head coach.
Putting together a rotation for next season is the biggest obstacle facing the Vikings.
“We just aren’t going to have a whole lot of pitchers,” Ramsey said. “We’re going to have a few guys throwing the majority of the innings, which I hate to do to young kids.”
Junior Parker Carranco pitched well this season and will return as the team’s most experienced hurler. Sophomore Chris Dula, who has an electric arm and tossed a five-inning no-hitter this year, will see increased time on the mound.
“We’ll also have a lefty, Justin Strider, that has limited mound time,” Ramsey said.
The Vikings will get things started earlier next year because Ramsey will not help coach the football team again.
“We’ll start probably the second week of school and go five days a week every chance we get,” Ramsey said.
