Limited resources put strain on Hounds’ starting pitching

With 11 players, Statesville baseball coach Chad Parker can’t shuffle the lineup much.

Pitching offers almost no leeway, especially with Parker using relievers Tanner Stroud and Josh Booher as little as possible. Tuesday’s 8-4 loss to West Iredell was more proof. Starter Brent Daino went an inning longer than his usual five. West added one run on two hits in the sixth before Stroud relieved Daino.

Parker appreciates Daino’s effort, though. A soccer enthusiast, Daino opted to play baseball again before heading off to N.C. State.

“I was real happy he decided to come out this year,” Parker said. “He and David Moose have shouldered the load on the mound. I wish we could have given them some more help.”
