Raiders have high hopes for next season
By Brad Norman
North Iredell’s softball team finished seventh in the North Piedmont 3A this season, one spot away from making the playoffs.
The Raiders don’t expect that to be a trend and already have an eye on a future playoff berth.
“We’ll have some really strong players coming up from JV,” North coach Kim James said. “Some of them this year were playing JV and varsity, so they got some experience.”
Kayla Troutman is the leading candidate to replace pitcher Heather Nellis, who will play at Greensboro College next year.
“She backed up Heather when we had to take Heather out, and pitched on JV,” James said. “She improved a great deal. I think she’ll be fine.”
The Raiders will also return do-everything leadoff batter Kasey Talley and several talented sophomores, including Elisha Clutter and Kaci Williams.
“Elisha Clutter in left field, she was awesome this year,” James said. “And Kaci actually has some colleges looking at her already.”
