Vikings’ Couch, Thwaites regional champions

WALLBURG—South Iredell athletes won two titles and qualified for the state meet in four events during Saturday’s 2A Midwest Regional track and field championships at Ledford High School.
“That’s a pretty good day,” Vikings coach Brent Bustle said. “They were pretty excited.”
Anthony Thwaites and Carly Couch combined for two first-place finishes in individual events.
Thwaites won the boys’ 100-meter dash with a time of 11.03 seconds.
Couch won the girls’ 800 run with a time of 2 minutes, 28 seconds.
Courtney Saddler’s time of 13.34 seconds was the fourth fastest in the girls’ 100 meters. By finishing in the top four, Saddler also qualified for Friday’s 2A state championship meet at N.C. A&T University in Greensboro.
Thwaites qualified for the state meet in two events Saturday. The senior also helped Michael Clarke, Tevin Ikard and Darryl Parker place fourth in the boys’ 4x100 relay with a time of 43.87 seconds.
