SOFTBALL: Hickory Ridge 5, Lake Norman 0
Wildcats fall in first playoff appearance
FROM STAFF REPORTS
Lake Norman’s softball team made its first playoff appearance Tuesday, but the Wildcats couldn’t muster the firepower to beat Hickory Ridge.
Lake Norman, the No. 5 seed from the North Piedmont 3A, had 15 batters strike out in the 5-0 loss in the first round of the playoffs.
The Wildcats (8-13) threatened in the first inning, putting two runners in scoring position with no outs. That success was short-lived, however, as the next three Lake Norman batters struck out.
The Wildcats put two more runners on base in the sixth inning, but again failed to take advantage.
Jennifer Stogner took the loss for Lake Norman, allowing five runs and striking out three.
Hannah Littlefield racked up two hits to lead the Wildcats, while Jo Beth Wright and Christy Plyler each added one hit.
Hickory Ridge scored three of its five runs in the sixth inning.
