Book on Halloween style is bewitching

If you are looking for easy and inventive ways to bring the creepy crawlies to your Halloween festivities, check out Halloween Tricks and Treats (Time Home Entertainment, $19.95), the latest book by Matthew Mead, a food and craft stylist.

Mead is an expert at dreaming up projects that combine the style of Martha Stewart with the ease of Rachael Ray.

His chalkboard pumpkins, for example, are an attractive, easy and fun alternative to carving. Just spray pumpkins with black chalkboard paint, then draw on them with chalk.

Other ideas include weaving black fondant, a claylike cake icing, into a web that can be draped over prepared pound cakes or cupcakes. There are simple ideas for decorating purchased cookies and plenty of craft ideas for adding ghoulish appeal to your home.
