Mooresville senior Jamel Allison drew quite the crowd during his first long jump attempt at last week’s Iredell County track and field championships.

With Allison beginning his sprint down the runway, the other jumpers stopped conversing and glued their eyes to the sand pit where Allison would land.

Allison timed his takeoff perfectly and floated through the air.

Teammates and opponents alike began cheering as soon as he landed.

Allison had just landed a jump of 24 feet, 4 inches.

It was a personal best and two feet longer than the winning jump at the 3A state meet last season.

“It feels good, man,” Allison said after the event concluded. “But after the first jump, everybody left. That was the big one, though.”
