South Iredell’s softball team took out the frustrations of several close defeats on Highland Tech.
The Vikings (2-3 Southern Piedmont 1A-2A) crushed the Rams 19-1 on Wednesday to remain squarely in the hunt for one of the SPC’s four 2A playoff spots.
“We had been struggling a little bit,” Vikings coach Josh Bumgarner said. “It’s been pretty frustrating. We’ve lost three conference games by a 2-1 score. Maybe that win will give us some confidence and momentum going into the rest of the conference schedule.”
One positive note South has taken from those games is the margin of defeat compared to last year.
“We’re definitely in the games this year, where last year we lost several by the 10-run rule,” Bumgarner said. “We just can’t (score) any runs. We could very easily be standing at 5-0 in the conference.”
