Christenberry does double damage on diamond
By Brad Norman
North Iredell senior Tyler Christenberry is known as a smart, defensive-minded catcher. He calls pitches for the Raiders and teams rarely run on him due to his strong arm.
But Christenberry’s most notable contribution this year has come at the plate.
He’s batting just over .450 for the Raiders and has swatted two game-winning home runs.
“He’s just got a natural swing,” Raiders coach Matthew Poole said. “He’s got good power for his size. He’s a competitor. He’s batting around .450 this year and hit .470 last year. You can’t get much better than that.”
Christenberry, who played in the field his first two seasons at North, was moved to catcher out of necessity.
“He’s a good utility player, and that will helps his chances at the next level,” Poole said.
