Despite a delayed start, Jordan Daywalt hasn’t missed a beat pole vaulting.
The senior cleared 11 feet, 6 inches in her first track and field meet. That same height earned her a 3A state title as a junior.
“I didn’t regress,” Daywalt said. “I just need to practice more.”
Daywalt’s assistance in the basketball team’s run to the state quarterfinals postponed her workouts.
“I didn’t want basketball to end,” she admitted, “but track is a big adrenaline rush, and I like pole vaulting.”
Daywalt, who is considering several Division I college programs, including North Carolina, was hindered by an injury after basketball. She said she suffered sprained muscles in her neck and chest following a collision during a dodgeball game.
“Dad says I can’t play football or dodgeball anymore until track is over,” Daywalt quipped.
