GREENSBORO — Mooresville graduate Jake Deaton officially ended his high school career Saturday by taking 17th place in the shot put at the Nike Outdoor Nationals.
Seeded in the the first of three flights, Deaton’s longest toss was 54 feet, 1 inch.
Indianapolis native Brandon Pounds won the event with a final distance of 68 feet, 11 inches.
After collecting two 3A state championships in the discus and one in shot put as a member of the Blue Devils track team, Deaton will head to UNC-Charlotte in August and continue his throwing career.
