Statesville Christian held Woodland Christian’s potent leading scorer in check Saturday and prevailed 60-55 in overtime.
Katie Lamm led the Lions with a game-high 21 points. Drew Burgiss poured in another 19 points.
Burgiss and her younger sister Ali keyed a defensive strategy to stop Woodland Christian’s Holly Gammons, who entered the contest averaging 30 points a game. They shared the responsibility of guarding her man-to-man in the Lions’ box-and-one defense. Gammons finished with 12 points.
Drew Burgiss and Abby Baity combined for nine assists, and Katie Godsell led the Lions (9-5) in rebounds with six.
