Devils continue dominance on the track

By BRAD NORMAN

Mooresville’s boys track and field team cruised at Saturday’s 3A West Regional.

The Blue Devils scored 138 points to easily take first place over Asheville, which was second with 85 points.

Mooresville had six first-place finishes: Jake Deaton in the shot put and discus, Jamel Allison in the long jump and triple jump, Patrick Campbell in the 1,600-meter run, and the 3,200-meter relay team.

Mooresville will compete in the 3A championship Friday.

“The toughest (competition) this year will come from Carver, a school in Winston-Salem,” Mooresville coach Mike Serefine said. “They are very strong at the sprinting events. As far as the middle, long distance and field events, they won’t have as much depth as we do.”

Aisha Cannon led Mooresville’s girls team to a fifth-place finish. Cannon won the triple jump and was second in the long jump.
