Difficult draw brings and end to Vikings’ season
By Brad Norman
The hat was not kind to South Iredell’s softball team.
The Vikings tied Lincolnton for the Southern Piedmont 1A-2A’s No. 3 seed in the 2A playoffs, but drew seed No. 4 out of a hat during the tiebreaking procedure.
That gave South a tough opponent in Forbush. The Falcons, ranked second in the state in the 2A coaches poll, won 11-1 on Tuesday.
“Going into the game, we knew they were a good team,” South coach Josh Bumgarner said. “We felt like if we could play at the level we’d been playing at the last two, three weeks, that we would give ourselves a shot. Unfortunately, the defense wasn’t there like it had been.”
Kathleen Pasquarella was responsible for South’s run. She blasted a solo home run to right-center field.
“It was an absolute bomb,” Bumgarner said.
