Dominant Devils now set sights on regional title
By Brad Norman
Mooresville’s boys track team is now two for two.
With a strong focus on winning the county, conference, regional and state track meets this season, the Blue Devils were dominant again in last week’s North Piedmont 3A meet victory.
The Blue Devils, who also won the Iredell County championship, will now focus on the 3A West Regional, which take place Saturday.
The Blue Devils had at least one individual or relay team automatically qualify in 17 of the 18 events — every one except the 400-meter run.
“We’re definitely stronger this year,” Mooresville coach Michael Serefine said.
That’s a scary thought for opponents, considering Mooresville won the 3A state championship last year.
The top four finishers in Saturday’s regional events will qualify for the state meet.
“Obviously the more we have the better,” Serefine said. “Just realistically, we’re probably looking at somewhere around 15 guys who could qualify for states. As far as event wise goes, of the 18 events, probably somewhere in the neighborhood of 13 or 14 events.”
