The playoff run Statesville’s girls basketball team put together has delayed several members from beginning track practice.

Tamesha Bailey, Jordan Daywalt and Keyrra Gillespie helped Statesville’s girls track and field team win the Iredell County Championship and NPC Championship last season.

Daywalt, a senior, won a state title in the pole vault in 2007.

Bailey, who’s battled leg injuries, and Gillespie are their top sprinters.

“When (Bailey is) 100 percent, she is the fastest girl out here,” coach Sonny Schofield said.
