It’s midget football’s time to shine

Now, it’s the Mooresville Midget Football League’s Pee Wee Division teams turn to shine within the Southland Football League ranks.

Last weekend, the MMFL Midget teams got their turn, all four of the squads taking their turn to compete for overall bragging rights when engaging in the annual Midget Bowl Day affairs held on the Bandys High School field.

This weekend, the Pee Wee troops hit the natural turf on the Newton-Conover High School field to draw their seasons to a close.

Midget Division

East Lincoln 24, Cougars 8
In the battle for SFL supremacy, the MMFL Cougars took a hit on the opening kickoff and never fully recovered. The loss of a key player on the opening kick took the life out of the locals in a 24-8 loss.

“These kids,” praised head coach Delvin Robinson, “had a great season. It didn’t end the way any of us wanted, but we had a great run. We’re already looking forward to next season.”

The Cougars overcame the initial setback to actually score first and compliment the tally with a conversion. After that, East Lincoln tallied a tying score later in the first half and then the foes accounted for all the points put forth in the final two periods of play.

With the loss, the Cougars completed their season at the 6-2 mark. Several members of the team were also singled four for SFL All-Star status.

Upcoming games
The MMFL Pee Wee teams complete play with games on the Newton-Conover High field. The Cougars, Hornets, Terminators and Warriors will all see action, engaging in play against SFL counterparts hailing from the West Division.
