Mooresville’s baseball team had the bats entering this season. It was putting them in the correct order that was tricky.
After tinkering with the lineup during the first portion of the season, Blue Devils coach Jeff Burchett has the offense humming.
It’s a major reason why Mooresville (10-2 overall,6-2 North Piedmont 3A) has won seven consecutive games heading into this week.
“I’ve tried eight or nine different lineups as far as batting order, and we’re getting some consistency,” Burchett said.
Aubrey Meadows, the team’s ace, has been a pleasant surprise at the plate. He’s batting No. 3 and leading the team in batting average.
“Going into the season I never would have thought that,” Burchett said. “He’s put the bat on the ball and he’s hitting for some power. He’s probably batting over .400.”
Billy Nantz, a sophomore, went from utility player to batting at the top of the order.
“He gives us a spark at the leadoff spot,” Burchett said. “Right now, that’s our best lineup.”
