It looks like North Iredell fans may get to see Lee Linville during a football game next year after all.
Linville, who abruptly stepped down as North football coach last week, appears poised to be named an assistant coach at West Rowan, the Raiders’ North Piedmont 3A foe.
“I’m working on it, but it’s not a done deal,” Linville said. “We’re going to work on a transfer for the fall.”
Linville already has a job in Rowan County. He will teach at Knox Middle School for the remainder of the year after deciding to leave his teaching position at North Iredell late last week.
“It was just one of those things, it was blessed timing,” Linville said. “I feel like leaving North now is easier on the players. If I’m around there for three more months, they’re going to have a hard time healing. In the grand scheme of things, the kids are more important than anything else.”
The Falcons have won the NPC championship outright for three consecutive years under coach Scott Young, and they earned a share of the title the year prior.
“We’ve talked,” Young said. “We’d love to have Lee. Lee’s a good guy, he’s got a good family and he’s a good coach.”
North officials plan to take applications for the head coaching position until March 18.
