Lions volleyball wins conference

Statesville Christian won the Southern Piedmont Athletic Associate tournament on Tuesday with two consecutive wins.

The Lions (19-1) defeated Gaston Day 3-0 (25-12, 25-6, 25-13) in the semifinals, and then swept SouthLake 3-0 (25-18, 25-13, 25- 19).

Brooke Christenbury was then named the conference player of the year and tournament MVP.

She had 23 kills combined in both games, and eight blocks against SouthLake.

Tamara Estes had 15 total kills and Katie Lamm finished with 40 assists in the two matches.

Emily Eldredge finished with six kills and five aces against Gaston Day.

Estes and Eldredge joined Christenbury on the all conference first team, and Lamm and Haley Paterson made second team.
