Some members of the Mooresville Midget Football league got a jump on the rest of the field recently and did so with the aid of professionals.
Some 30 participants in the MMFL program were in attendance at the Panthers Junior Training Camp held on the National Football League’s Carolina Panthers training ground.
The event took place helping coincide with the final stages of early preseason planning for the local youth football circuit that now is in full practice swing for the start of regular season next month.
The MMFL players at the Panthers Camp were able to conduct practice and implement offensive and defensive drills.
Program coaches Larry Heppner and John Whitney were the ones primarily responsible for helping organize the MMFL’s participation in the camp activities.
Following months of registration, the MMFL teams are now in preseason practice in continued preparation for the start of play once again within the Southland Football League. Games will get underway next month, with the local branch again accounting for the largest of all league entries with a total of eight teams – four in each of the two playing divisions – in the field.
This year, all home games for the local organization will be held on a Mooresville Stadium field that is now in the process of receiving a complete facelift and will feature an artificial turf surface.
