Monroe shares skills at basketball clinics
Monroe, the all-time leading scorer at North Carolina State University, will be in the house throughout the current phase of March Madness, conducting youth basketball clinics in the immediate Mooresville area.
Beginning this weekend and taking place on the following Saturdays of the month, Monroe will be on hand to offer personal instruction to any and all interested youngsters ages eight and above.
The weekend clinics will start Saturday and take place each Saturday after that throughout March.
All of the youth clinics will be held in the gym in the War Memorial Building. There will be a pair of gatherings, depending on age.
Youngsters ages 8-11 will meet from 3-4 p.m.., while those ages 12 and up will gather from 4-5 p.m.
Cost of participating in the clinics is $60 each. The fee covers all scheduled sessions.
In addition to this Saturday, other clinic dates are set for March 22 and again March 29.
As for Monroe, he certainly has the credentials to support his status as the clinic instructor.
He graduated from high school at the state of Maryland’s all-time leading scorer at the prep level with in excess of 3,000 points. He received a scholarship to attend NCSU and still holds several records within the Wolfpack program. One he maintains is that of the all-time leading scorer.
After college, Monroe was drafted by the National Basketball Association’s Atlanta Hawks. In addition to time spent in the NBA, Monroe has also played professional basketball in Europe. During his 14 years as a professional, his resume includes stops in Italy, Greece, Israel and Australia.
Registration, which is required, continues to take place for the youth camps. The Mooresville Recreation Department is in charge of sign-ups, accepting them at the new office building at 418 Carpenter Ave., on a daily basis from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.
