Mooresville baseball a top seed in Catawba Classic

NEWTON - Mooresville High will be the top seed for the 18th annual Catawba County Easter Baseball Classic, which opens with four games on Monday at the Legion Fairgrounds Field.
The Blue Devils will play eighth-seeded Newton-Conover at 5 p.m. on Monday, after No. 7 Maiden faces No. 2 St. Stephens at noon and No. 6 Bunker Hill battles No. 3 Hickory at 2:30 p.m.
Monday’s fourth game, at 7:30 p.m., is No. 5 Alexander Central vs. No. 4 Fred T. Foard in a rematch of last year’s title game that Foard won 6-5.
There are four games, including semifinals at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., on Tuesday at the Fairgrounds Field just off U.S. 64-70 in Newton.
Wednesday’s third-place game is at 4:30 p.m. and the championship game is at 7:30 p.m.
Admission each day is $5 for adults and $2 for children 12 and under.
Hickory Orthopaedic Center and Jay-Jay Trophies are sponsoring this year’s tournament.

2:30 p.m.: Bunker Hill-Hickory loser vs. Alexander Central-Fred T. Foard loser.
5 p.m.: Newton-Conover-Mooresville winner vs. Alexander Central-Fred T. Foard winner, semifinal.
7:30 p.m.: Bunker Hill-Hickory winner vs. Maiden-St. Stephens winner, semifinal.
WEDNESDAY
4:30 p.m.: Semifinals losers, third place.
7:30 p.m.: Semifinal winners, championship.
