Mooresville boys win conference title with ease

MOORESVILLE — Mooresville dominated the boys meet and took second place in the girls meet at the North Piedmont 3A championships.
The Blue Devils boys finished with 207 team points, far ahead of second-place West Rowan (68). Statesville was fifth with 46 points, with West Iredell (37) sixth, North Iredell (22) eighth and Lake Norman (14) ninth.
Northwest Cabarrus won the girls meet with 144.83 points. Mooresville (100.33) was second. Lake Norman (53.25) was fourth, Statesville (46.25) fifth, North Iredell (42.33) sixth and West Iredell (29) tied for seventh.
Mooresville’s Patrick Campbell was named MVP of the boys event. He won the 800-, 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs and helped Mooresville finish first in the 4x800 relay. Jake Deaton won the shot put and discus in dominating fashion for the Devils, while teammate Jamel Allison finished first in the long jump and triple jump.
Mooresville also won the 4x100 and 4x200 relays, giving the Blue Devils the relay sweep.
Mark Barber took first place in the 110-meter hurdles for West Iredell, while teammate Jermail Rucker beat him out for the win in the 300 hurdles.
Statesville’s Nick Martin won the pole vault.
Fellow Greyhound Jordan Daywalt won the girls pole vault as well. Her jump of 11 feet, 6 inches was 4 feet higher than any other competitor.
North Iredell’s Jasmine Morris won the long jump and took second place in the 100-meter dash.
Mooresville’s Aisha Cannon won the triple jump, while Lake Norman finished first in a 4x800 relay.
West Iredell’s girls finished second in the 4x200 relay.
North Iredell’s best boys result came in the 100-meter dash, where Cuadaris Teasley finished third. Lake Norman got its best finish in the 4x200 relay, coming in third.
