Mooresville course hosts charity golf tourney
The area-based First Tee of Lake Norman Region hits home this month with the staging of its annual Fall Charity Tournament.
Home-based out of the Mooresville Municipal Golf Course, that town-owned and public 18-hole facility will serve as the host site of the scheduled attraction on tap to tee off the first of next week.
Registration for participation is currently underway and nearing the final fairway phase for the affair that carries an Oct. 8 play date.
The need for players for the first-of-the-week Columbus Day attraction is particularly strong, according to organizers, who hope to have a near capacity field for play tabled to be held the second Monday of the month. Cost of participating is $60 per player.
For the fee, players cover all golf-related expenses including greens fee and cart rental as well as lunch and attendance at an awards ceremony that will follow play. Competition the day of the event will get underway with a 1 p.m. start. Lunch will be held prior to play.
Format for the event will take the shape of the familiar captain’s choice style of play. Under this player-friendly procedure, all members of a four-player team hit each shot from the best result of each previous shot. Low scores are traditionally the rule rather than the exception.
Those interested in participating can do so as full four-player teams or as an individual to be placed on a team.
All proceeds realized from the attraction will go to benefit the programs of the First Tee of Lake Norman Region. The organization’s mission is to impact the lives of young people buy providing learning facilities and educational programs that promote character development and life enhancing values through the game of golf.
The event is again being presented by the Walter T. Morgan Service Foundation.

Also as of this month, the first Tee of Lake Norman has teed off its fall schedule, with a host of events tabled to take place at the organization’s home course through the middle of November.
