Mooresville Rec starts signups
The question as to “Who’s on first,’’ and the rest of the line-up routine begins for the Mooresville Recreation Department as of early next week.
That’s when the MRD officially opens the gate for the its localized version of spring training when getting the ball rolling – literally—on registration for its youth softball and baseball leagues.
The sign-up season takes place as of Monday and will continue to be held throughout the month of March. In addition to the registration being accepted during the regular work week, some specially scheduled sessions have also been set aside for weekend sign-ups as well.
Beginning Monday, youth registration will be accepted from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. during the week in the MRD’s new athletic office at 418 Carpenter Ave. All sign-ups must take place in person.
Cost of participating for all players is $30 each. All new players must also provide a copy of a birth certificate to show proof of age.
Softball teams are being provided for players ages 5-13, while baseball squads are being suited up for players ages 5-13.
In addition to the regular work week sign-up time frames, two weekend registration sessions have also been scheduled at various locations.
On March 15, sign-ups will be accepted from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Mooresville location only of Dick’s Sporting Goods.
And on march 29, against from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. a session for registration will be conducted at the Mooresville location only of Play It Again Sports.
Sign-ups will take place throughout the month of March. Once the registration period draws to a close, players will be assigned teams for practices that get underway in April. Games in all the leagues will then take place May through the middle of June.
Following the registration, coaches meetings will be scheduled to distribute playing rules and release schedules.
Also, a mandatory umpire meeting for all interested in officiating games at any of the baseball and softball leagues will also be held by the MRD. Times and dates of the coaches and officials gatherings will be announced at a later date.
For additional details, all interested are urged to contact the MRD office at 704-663-7026.
