Starting goalkeeper Rebecca Overcash broke a bone in her right hand during West’s first game of the season.

Coach David Heintz admired her toughness.

“She didn’t say a word to me about it until the next day,” Heintz said. “She finished the game.”

Overcash returned to the lineup Monday for the first time since the incident, albeit in a substitution role. Overcash registered eight second-half saves in West’s 6-0 loss to Statesville.

“She fielded some good shots and was able to hold them,” Heintz said.

“(The hand) just bothered her a little bit. She should be almost back to full strength after spring break.”
