Pumpkin Run on tap for weekend
It may not be the great pumpkin, but it is the Pumpkin Run and accompanying events taking place this weekend courtesy of the Mooresville Recreation Department.
The MRD is again proud to announce the staging of the annual Pumpkin Run 8K road race and mile Fun Run both set to take place tomorrow (Saturday) morning. Gun time is set for 9 a.m.
Both races will start and finish at the MRD headquarters on Maple Street.
With registration for participants ongoing for an extended period of time, those wishing to still get their feet into the field may do so with a race-day entry fee of $30 each.
Information regarding the events will be available beginning at 7 a.m. and will continue to so up to 30 minutes prior to the start of the Pumpkin Run.
Again this year, proceeds from the attraction will go to benefit the Mooresville Recreation Foundation. Created by the Chamber of Commerce Leadership Group, the Foundation helps create greenways and parks, purchase new playground equipment and improve existing parks and facilities.
Race participants may pick up their packets right up to the start of the race.
For the main event, the field will be divided into a host of age and gender divisions. Awards will be presented to the first-place finishing overall male and female runner as well as those winding up in the top three placements, when applicable, within each of the age groups.
Age classes for both genders include: 14 and under; 15-19; 20-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59, and 60 and up.
In conjunction with the Pumpkin Run, a Fun Run will also take place for participants of all ages. All entries age 10 and up will be assessed a $15 sign-up fee that includes a T-shirt. All runners age nine and below can run free of charge but will not be presented with a T-shirt.
In addition to players, race organizers are also still in the process of securing sponsors. A minimum of $250 is being asked for cash donations, but other forms of assistance are also being accepted in the form of accessories that could help build the goody bags that will be presented to every participant.
For additional details, all interested are encouraged to contact the MRD athletic office at 704-663-7026.
