Register now for youth rec sports‘Tis the sign-up season in regards to the youth basketball and wrestling programs again being conducted this late fall and winter through the Mooresville Recreation Department. Registration actually kicked off for both sports late last week and will continue to be accepted through the end of November. Sign-ups will be held through Nov. 30. In basketball, play is being offered for girls ages 5-16 and for boys ages 5-17. Again this year, players will be separated both by gender and age divisions. In wrestling, boys and girls age 5-13 are welcome to participate. Cost of participating in either program is $30 per player. When registering, all youth must be represented by a parent and/or legal guardian. A copy of a birth certificate should also be provided when registering. Sign-ups are being accepted in the new MRD athletic headquarters at 418 Carpenter Ave. Registration will be taken from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. during the regular week. Special weekend registration sessions, including one taking place this weekend, are also on tap. Saturday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., registration will be held in the new MRD headquarters. The following Saturday, sign-ups will be accepted again from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., it being held at the Mooresville location of Dick’s Sporting Goods. With registration taking place throughout the month, players will then be assigned to teams for practices that will be held in December. Basketball games and wrestling matches will then be held during January and February.
