Registration open for memorial tourney
Organizers of the annual Kin Gallyon Memorial Golf Tournament are hoping that earlier does indeed mean better.
Conducting matters nearly a month ahead of when they were last year, this early fall season’s affair is accepting registration full bore now for its ninth annual event that will be held Oct. 5.
Once again, items nearest and dearest to the late Kim Gallyon will be the primary beneficiaries of the end-of-the-workweek affair. Proceeds realized from the outing will again go to aid special projects underway at Iredell County Recreation and Parks Department facilities and sites.
Also this time around, the tournament will be housed out of the Fox Den Country Club headquarters. Play will get underway on the scheduled Friday with a 1 p.m. shotgun start for the field. All players are being asked to be present on the premises for game-day registration from 11:45 a.m. until 12:45 p.m.
Cost of participating is the same $50 fee that was in place a year ago. For the price, all participants are covered for golf related expenses including greens fee and cart rental, as well as lunch and attendance to a post-play awards ceremony.
Format for the event will once again take the shape of the familiar captain’s choice procedure. Under this style of play, each member of the four-player teams hits each shot from the best result of each previous shot. Low scores are usually the norm.
Prizes will be awarded to the members of the event’s top three finishing teams.
In addition to the stroke play among the teams, on-course events will also honor winners in the form of closest-to-the-pin and long drive contests on selected holes. Also, a host of door prizes made possible from an array of sponsors will also be presented to select participants.
The attraction is again being hosted by the Iredell County Parks and Recreation Department.
In addition to players, sponsors are also being sought. Various levels of sponsorship are available, depending on the desires of those businesses and/or individuals wishing to contribute.
Deadline to enter the tournament is Oct. 1. In case of rain the day of the scheduled outing, it will be reset to take place Oct. 19.
