Saddler, Vikings impress on the track

FROM STAFF REPORTS
PUMPKIN CENTER — South Iredell’s boys team took top honors in a four-team meet Wednesday at North Lincoln.

The Vikings finished with 93 points to edge North Lincoln (87), with Lincolnton (73) and East Lincoln (8) trailing.

Meanwhile, the South girls finished second with 53 points thanks to an enormous effort from Courtney Saddler.

Saddler won the 100- and 200-meter dashes, while teaming with Whitney Campbell, Shikela Bailey and Shalonda Kendra for a win in the 4x200 relay. She also paired up with Campbell, Bailey and Megan Parker for a win in the 4x100 relay.

Carly Couch took top honors in the 800-meter run.

North Lincoln’s girls finished first with 85 points. Lincolnton (35 points) was third.

Michael Clarke contributed three wins for the Vikings boys. Clarke finished first in the long jump and triple jump, then combined with Darryl Parker, Anthony Thwaites and Tevin Ikard to win the 4x200 relay.

Ikard took first place in the high jump, one spot ahead of teammate Markevis Dalton. Dalton won the 400-meter dash.

Ethan Ostwalt took first place in the 1600-meter run for South.
