If West Iredell’s volleyball team is to get back to the state championship match in the fall, it will have to do so under the direction of a new coach.
Kelly Burdeau, who guided the Warriors to the 3A state final in November, left the school. A former college player at Catawba, Burdeau is now teaching — but not coaching — at Mooresville High.
Attempts to reach Burdeau for comment were unsuccessful.
West athletics director Mark Weycker said the school hasn’t named Burdeau’s replacement yet.
Burdeau coached the Warriors for three seasons, during which time they compiled a record of 72-11, won two North Piedmont 3A titles and qualified for the playoffs three times.
West finished 28-6 last season after losing a five-game heartbreaker to Greenville Conley in the state championship match.
