It was a perfect day for Statesville Christian.

The Lions won their fourth consecutive North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association state title on Sunday, and did so in dominant fashion.

Statesville Christian finished with 36 points to claim the 1A state title, well ahead of second-place Kerr-Vance Academy (21 points). Gaston Day was third with 12 points.

But that’s not all.

The Lions also won all six individual state championships and all three doubles state championships in a tournament sweep.

Kayla Duncan won the top flight with another easy 6-0, 6-0 win. Duncan did not lose a game the entire weekend.

Ali Burgiss won the third flight title and Taylor Baird won the sixth flight title, both also by 6-0, 6-0 scores.

Drew Burgiss claimed the second flight title with a 6-1, 6-0 win and Elizabeth Blackburn also won 6-1, 6-0 to clinch the fourth flight title.

Brooke Baird won the fifth flight title with a 6-0, 6-2 victory.

The performances in doubles play were just as impressive.

Duncan and Drew Burgiss won the top flight doubles title with an 8-0 win.

Blackburn and Diana Castano won on the No. 3 court with an 8-3 win.

And Brooke Baird and Ali Burgiss won 8-4 on the No. 2 court, in the closest match of the afternoon that wasn’t really that close, to cement the sweep.
