It’s been more than a year since senior Cuadarius Teasley played a sport at North Iredell.

He’s more than made up for lost time.

Teasley will compete in the 100-meter dash at the 3A track and field championship Friday at North Carolina A&T.

Teasley played football as a junior, but did not participate in an athletic endeavor again until this spring.

“I used to play football, but I didn’t play this year because I have a leadership position in the band,” Teasley said. “I’m the drum captain. I’ve been waiting a long time for that leadership position, so I wasn’t just going to throw that away.”

Teasley finished third at last week’s 3A Western Regional after clocking in at 11.07 seconds, just .03 seconds behind second-place finisher Akeem Black of Mooresville.

“I had (Black) the whole way,” Teasley said. “Toward the end, I thought I had second locked in and I sort of pulled up and didn’t finish with a lean. He came in and leaned, and he got me.”

Teasley was seeded 12th out of 25 runners at the regional. Coach Roger Bost thinks good competition brings out the best in him.

“He’s a racer,” Bost said. “The faster the kids around him, the faster he runs.”
