U-9 Cobras claim winter state crownThe beat, and the beatings, continue for the Mooresville-based Carolina Cobras nine-and-under tournament caliber baseball team. Participating in earlier this month’s Winter State Championships held at George Poston Park in Gastonia, the Cobras gloved three straight wins to reach the title game and then prevailed in a wild, 12-11 shootout to emerge as champions. With Jimmy Messer and Eric Graham serving as coaches, players on the team consisting primarily of local-bred talent include Austin Force, Evan Giambrone, Troy Graham, Rhyne Johnson, Gabe Kacenga, Cole Ladowski, Dakota Messer, Brady Pope, Tyler Shepherd and Matthew Wilkinson.
